In this passage, God is giving Moses his life’s assignment to be Israel’s deliverer from slavery. Feeling very unqualified, Moses argues with God. God asks Moses, “What’s in your hand?” Moses replies, “A shepherds staff.”
A shepherds staff was a very ordinary tool. And in the Egyptian culture, a despised tool because the Egyptians looked very condescendingly at this vocation.
But God asks Moses to throw down his staff before The Lord. Essentially, Moses dedicated this very ordinary tool to God, making it extraordinary!
What is in YOUR hand? Although very ordinary, when dedicated to God, what we have becomes a supernatural tool of deliverance!
What’s in your hand?
